Welcome To More Tips from PePa's Treasures

Parenting with Love and Logic, with the greatest emphasis on Love,  is something you will not hear a lot about today. Unfortunately for the kids of the 21st Century, and beyond, our modern day society has discarded kids and turned their attention to other things. I can remember, as a child, my parents made me feel pretty important. Everything in the family sort’ a revolved around us kids in those days and not for the reasons that we see today.
That is why today I am shocked when I see a sick society that throws babies in a dumpster or leaves them on someone’s door step just because they no longer want to be bothered with them. Not to mention the babies aborted so as not to interfere with the parents lifestyles.
It is no wonder the kids feel the way they do about drugs and suicides.
I believe it is time to restore the love for our children that once was and began teaching our children that they are the most important things in our lives.
Take at least one hour each and everyday and pay attention to your kids. Spent time doing something with them. INVEST in them.

What about Friends?
(Summed up by this Poem to MeMa from Pepa.)

Friends are a must for kids today,
Some Children choose them without Parent’s OK.
Furreal friends are usually hard to beat,
You know, those fuzzy ones, that don’t have to eat.

Real live pets, puppies and cats, are next on the list,
Pony Friends and such, Ha, those days will be missed.
Then comes day care and fighting over toys, and
New found friends to share giggles and joys.

Friendships are made throughout those early years,
Some will bring laughter others bring tears.
For Parents it is scary for kids it’s a blast,
Only God knows what Friendships will flourish and last.

But what happens when our children continue to grow,
And they start to be friends with those we don’t know,
Can we as Parents handle the element of surprise,
Of the daughters tattooed boyfriend, with earrings in his eyes.

Which Generation has missed it? I’d sure like to know,
Removing Christ from Christmas and adding mistletoe;
What about friends and whom shall they choose?
To maintain dignity, honor and their virginity not loose.

Who are our true friends that stick closer than a brother,
Christian friends, no doubt, even Fathers and Mother,
Grandparents too will fit that bill,
Although they appear to some as over the hill.

With wisdom once valued and still is by some,
A family meeting was called and all would come.
When choosing a friend was a family affair,
As the whole family gave input with love and care.

And the Child sat and listened out of respect,
To all of the mistakes that were made with regret.
By Grandparents and Parents in years gone by and
Certain things you are warned, you better not try.

Still we all know but may not admit,
That a child must choose the friend he will get.
I can only pray and hope throughout time,
That the friend that is chosen will be one like mine.

Thanks my Dear Wife for being that Friend.

Family Fun and Games Tip:

Family fun and games always start with "communication".

Pick a game that involves family and one that will allow you to get to know your Children likes and dislikes.

Challenging board games are good but just story telling or family talk games are the best.

Pets and Responsibility

I have a host of friends that have become pet owners while claiming to teach their children responsibility. In most of these cases the pets out live the child’s time of responsibility becoming a liability to the parents. Children grow up and their interests change, thus goes the responsibility of caring for a pet and of course parents pick up the slack in taking care of the little adorable critters.

Why is it that we feel that we have to give a child something to possess to teach them responsibility? A puppy, cat, bird or even a gerbil, are more than mere means of teaching responsibility. It is a lifetime of commitment for both the pets and the ones caring for them and should not be taken lightly.

Responsibility on the other hand comes with age not pets. As we grow older we begin to take on detailed responsibility for each and every action. Responsibility is taking credit for ones actions, wrong or right, and learning not to pass the blame to someone else just because there might be repercussions for those actions.

Want to teach your children responsibility? Teach them to always tell the truth, be honest in all dealings, and be kind to others, no matter if they agree or not.

That’s true Responsibility.
